Friday March 26 and Saturday March 27

Friday morning we were up early – over to the Admin. Office to check on our paperwork. All was complete so that was really good news. That meant that Dima could leave early and head on back to Kiev to submit this for us. We also got our court date set for next week – Thursday! So Erica and I went to pick up Ira and came back to the apartment. Dima came back in about 10:30 and he and Erica headed back to Balta. So now I’m flying solo which feels really strange. I’m so grateful that I can have Ira here with me during the days! So the rest of the day we just “hung out” here – played Uno, Nintendo, read some books as I found some here to buy that she can read. I brought her Ipod w/ some music and a couple of movies on it so she watched Home Alone. Then about 5:30 we cooked up some dinner. I don’t have to take her back until about 8pm but while I’m alone I have to take her back before dark for my safety so I’m not out by myself after the sun goes down. We made some mac and cheese and used some of wonderful cheeses that they have here to make it. Cooked up some type of sausage (like a Hilshire Farm Smoked Sausage) and put that in the mac and cheese – it was pretty good – Ira gobbled it right down. Then about 6 I walked her back for the night then came back home to a very quiet apartment. I read a little, type emails on the computer, and finally out of desperation turned on the tv. I found Ukraine’s Got Talent – that was fun, their version of Deal or No Deal except in the end they get in a tube with money flying all around and try to grab as much as they can, and believe it or not there was an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond. Watching them “speaking Russian” was pretty funny. Yes – I was BORED!
So today, Saturday – actually slept in a little – I have a cold and it’s that 3rd day which is usually the worst where it kind of comes to a head before breaking up. So I think I really needed the rest. I brought Vick’s Nyquil and Dayquil w/ me – thanks heavens and some nose spray so I’m surviving it ok. Anyway picked Ira up about 10:30. We walked down to the market and picked up some things. I imagine everyone here things I’m nuts going to the market most every day but there’s really nothing else to do. At least it kills a little time and gives me some more walking. So we bought cheeses, bread, bologna, and that same “ham” that is kind of like a Canadian bacon. Got some Lays chips, some grape juice and Ira got some candy and sunflower seeds. Then we headed back home. Unpacked it all – I did laundry and Ira watched some tv. We had lunch – this child was starving today!!! It’s funny – I brought a jar of peanut butter from home w/ ritz crackers (I can live off of that) and Ira wouldn’t eat peanut butter over Christmas but now she’s really cutting into my supply!!! Haha I haven’t seen any in the store so I’ll ask Dima when he gets back here Thrusday for court to see if he sees any in the market. I’m definitely going to need some more!
So now we’re just having some quiet time together. I’m typing out emails in my word program and Ira’s eating sunflower seeds and watching an Ipod movie. We’ll make some dinner about 5:30 then I’ll walk her back and we’ll start over tomorrow. Anyone calling in – remember I go to daylight savings time tonight (Sat.) so I’ll be back to being 7 hrs ahead of U.S. Life is good!!!! :-)

  1. Good luck on the peanut butter front. They have no idea what it is. But I can tell you she will eat you out of house and home on it. My friends son goes through a big Sams club jar a week. They eat alot of peanuts in the orphange, so they like the protein. But I will see if I can find some in Odessa before I come. Wish me luck on the one. See this week.
